Southern Cape Fire Protection Association

The Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (SCFPA) was established and registered in 2007. The SCFPA is a registered Non Profit Company, which operates in an area from Witsand, along the Breederiver, North to the Swartberge – all along the Swartberge to the East at Willowmore and down South, towards Plettenberg Bay (EDEN Districts Municipality) as well as in the Eastern Cape, the Tsitsikamma, Langkloof and Baviaanskloof. ± 4 million Hectare area of resposibility.

Our primary objectives are to (a) empower local communities in assisting them to become more aware of the risks of fire, (b) capacitate them to act proactively to reduce the hazards and vulnerability of assets, and (c) allow them to act as a first response to fire emergencies. In doing so, communities become safer and are more prepared in the event of a fire emergency. Through the creation of an enabling framework and greater awareness, fewer ignitions will result in less spread and easier suppression of veld fires.

Integrated Fire Management (IFM) is a crutial part any FPA. We do our best to impleted IFM through our our region, whether it is on small holdings, nature reserves or in the wildland urban interface zone; Prevention is better than Suppresion. We need the help of our members to act accordingly and too spread awarness so that we, as a team, can prevent these devestating unwanted wildfires.

It is the responsibility of landowners to manage their property to the best of their abilities in order to stop the spread of wild veld fires. 1) Assess the vulnerability of your property 2) Create a survivable space around your house 3) Firescape inside the survivable space 4) Reduce fuel loads 5) Clear invading/alien vegetation
